about

The song tells the story of a 17th century crew sailing the Northern Atlantic. The captain is trying to will his men on when he knows death is imminent.

lyrics

Alone and adrift motionless, for thousands of leagues
Empty signal for days, no word from the guard on the receiver
Trade concealment of fear for the inducement of men
Eyes to the wind, sailor’s arms, when there is no one left to face

The tides that come, mark my words, clear the hold, set the rudder but don’t deploy
Stem to stern, wake the men, check the gun decks for things to employ
And when seconds turn to hours, as the bough pulls us leeward away
It may cost our souls, but we may have something to pay the devil today

I’ve remained, I recall, when our only burden was time
Disregard all the noises of the roaring water outside
But for now we are tied by the consternation of men
Stand inside what you fear, so that you can be found again
No we’re never alone
No we’re never alone
No we’re never alone
No we’re never alone

Conway came in, said something’s come through
With the guard on the line, the crew feels renewed
With a hull’s worth or less, if we have to even row
Cause there still may be time for the lighthouse to show

I refrain, I recoil from the visions I’ve seen in the ice
Playing games with men’s lives by the toss of a dead man’s die.
If we fall before Ryde it was done by our own accord
Pull the chain, hoist the sail, bear down for the route to shore
No we’re never alone
No we’re never alone
No we’re never alone
No we’re never alone

Bridge
The ballast is full, we still have the main sail, this looks pretty dire if I’m honest
She’s lost a few spars and planks have decayed
But hope holds us above the hurtles of hell below
So steady the hull, for we may still make the coast
And the strength of men is forged, when you push back against the tide
Send your love across the waves for our story will travel far
How we sacrificed it all, that’s how we’re remembered today

Sallowed skin, jaundiced eyes, hold closely the time you’ve spent
Break away, from the sea, and start over once again
Clear the rocks, from the deck, and mobilize the rest
We have not yet begun to face an honest test
Plug the holes, hold the lines, raise the winch up to the sky
Yes we’ve come to decide death’s pitch will wait another night
Pull the ace from the deck for the day can still be won
Rules are made of the sea from which you cannot outrun

Senses yearn for a sign beyond Dover’s cliffs of white
Sneaking through the dawn’s rise in the warmth of her blazing light
We alone must oppose the malice of the storm
Pull the sword from the stone, close your eyes and you are home

about

Trevor Meyer Cleveland, Ohio

This project is from the mind of Trevor Meyer. It is about music taking different shapes. Songs meander between 1st & 3rd person and the truth exists somewhere in the middle. Atmospheric and ethereal soundscapes encapsulate stories about using the past to change the future, pain rationalization, and channeling the non-music world through an artistic lens to see what comes out on the other side. ... more
